5 Habits to Help You Pause. Reflect and Reset Your Well-being

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, Spring is in full swing, and while we’re in the thick of spring when everything around us seems to be blooming and moving forward, it feels like the right time to pause, reflect, and reset. Just because life is moving fast doesn’t mean we feel like we are. And sometimes, the noise, the pressure, or even the pace of “keeping up” can leave us mentally and emotionally worn down or off track.

My wellness journey went into overdrive during the spring of 2021, at a time when my mindset wasn’t at its best, my energy was drained, and my health? Let’s just say, it wasn’t giving “wellness.” I was doing the best I could, but change was a must.

The Shift…

So, I started small. I didn’t change everything overnight. I began where I was, with what I had, and made one intentional choice at a time. That shift didn’t start with a new diet or workout plan, it started in my mind. With how I spoke to myself, my thoughts, how I handled stress, and with learning to listen to my body, instead of ignoring it like I had been doing for so long.

If I’m being real, I still have moments when I feel off-center, uninspired, or just tired of doing all the things. That’s usually my cue that somewhere along the line, I’ve gotten off track, and I take time to pause, reflect, and reset, just like I did when this all began. The difference now? I’ve built wellness into the rhythm of my life. So even when I slip, I know how to find my way back.

And now, I want to help you do the same.

5 Habits to Help You Pause. Reflect and Reset Your Well-being

If you’ve been feeling out of sync or unsure where to begin, this is your reminder to pause, reflect, and reset too.

Keep reading, for 5 intentional habits that help me feel more like myself again, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Not as a formula, but as a starting point. A baseline.

Think of these as little nudges, not big, sweeping changes, but steady reminders that help you come back to yourself when life feels off. These are practices I lean on when my mind is cluttered, my body feels heavy, or my spirit just needs a moment to breathe.

Each one is simple, doable, and flexible enough to meet you where you are.

Let’s get into it.

1. In the Diet: Cleanse

Spring is the perfect time to give your body a break and support your natural detox process. A cleanse isn’t about starving yourself, it’s about flooding your body with nutrients that help clear toxins, reduce bloating, improve digestion, boost your energy, improve your mood, and support weight loss.

This month, I’m doing a 5-day Spring Cleanse and inviting you to join me. You’ll get a simple meal plan and easy recipes you can stick to. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being intentional.

  • Action: Follow my 5-day spring cleanse with whole, nourishing foods.

  • Benefit: Detoxes your body, boosts energy, supports digestion and weight loss.

  • How to Do It: Eat clean, think fruits, veggies, teas, light proteins, and lots of water. Limit sugar, caffeine, dairy, alcohol, and processed foods.

2. In the Home: Declutter + Diffuse

Your space sets the tone for your energy. When my home feels chaotic, so do I. That’s why I take a few minutes each day to clear a little clutter, one drawer, one corner, one counter. Then I turn on my diffuser, especially while I’m cooking dinner or winding down at night. Lavender, eucalyptus, or frankincense? Game-changers for my mood.

  • Action: Declutter one small area and diffuse calming oils in the evening.

  • Benefit: Clears mental fog, calms your nervous system, and shifts the mood in your home.

  • How to Do It: Tidy up during the day, then set the vibe at night, dinner prep, bath time, or right before bed.

3. Physically: Get Moving

You don’t have to hit the gym to feel better in your body. Some days, I just take a brisk walk in the morning or right before sunset. It's a reset for both my body and my mind, fresh air, movement, and a moment to just be.

  • Action: Move your body with a walk or light stretch, 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Benefit: Eases tension, lifts your mood, and gets your circulation going.

  • How to Do It: Step outside. Walk with intention. Listen to a podcast, a playlist, or just your breath.

4. Mentally: Journal with Intention

Journaling isn’t just a brain dump, it’s mental and emotional hygiene. Sometimes I use a prompt. Sometimes I “junk journal” and let the words spill out. And sometimes, I write a letter to my inner homegirl, telling her how the day really went. It helps me sort through my emotions, gain clarity, and show myself grace.

  • Action: Write for 5–10 minutes at night using a prompt or freestyle.

  • Benefit: Clears mental clutter, reduces stress, and builds self-awareness.

  • How to Do It: Try “What’s weighing on me right now?” or “What do I need to release today?” Or just write whatever’s on your mind, no filter.

5. Rest: Protect Your Sleep

Your body heals when you sleep, but so does your mind. When I don’t get enough rest, everything feels heavier. I protect my sleep like I protect my peace. That means logging off and stopping the scroll at least one hour before bed.

  • Action: Create a bedtime routine and shut off screens an hour before sleep.

  • Benefit: Supports deep rest, emotional balance, and better decision-making.

  • How to Do It: Try a calming activity, reading, journaling, prayer, or a warm shower. Keep your phone out of reach and out of the room if possible.

Remember this...

You don’t have to overhaul your life to feel better, just start small, start where you are.

Each of these habits is a way to come back home to yourself, mind, body, and spirit.

Whether it’s what you eat, how you move, or how you rest, the goal is to create a rhythm that feels good and supports your peace. You deserve that.

✨ Pause. Reflect. Reset.

And when life gets loud, return to the basics that ground you.
